Back from living with the in-laws for a couple of weeks while we get some new knotty pine flooring. And kicking off the return with sweet simplicity! In honor of the fact that we are expecting a baby girl in January, I submit a sweet little number from the mid-50s. And yes, I'm going to try hard to hone my sewing skills over the next few years so that my own little girl can wear this exact dress when she's around 5 years old.
This is a one-piece 'simple to make' dress with a full gathered skirt (love it) and no sleeves! View 1, which is the one my grandmother made, has a contrasting bodice with a collar, pointed tab, armhole bias and belt and tie ends made of the skirt fabric. Simplicity tells us that View 2 is the "party version" (love that!) with a low neckline accented by the contrasting collar, with bows tacked above the collar's notched trim. The tie ends fasted in a big bow in the back. Everything to love!
...Including the pattern envelope, which shows its age by its delicate condition. Little Girl One is holding a flower and obviously enjoying a casual afternoon frolicking in the garden. Little Girl Two is wearing her white gloves and is ready for a soiree. I'm sure she's been brushing up on her manners in her spare time!
The pattern, size 5, is cut and complete (View 1 is cut; View 2 is not). It is adorable. It is On My List!

Your little girl will look splendid in this, I have no doubt!
Will she wear white gloves with it, too? ;-)
If I have anything to do with it, yes!! I love gloves!
